OUR approach to academics
At Summit School, our approach to academics is rooted in innovation, experiential learning, and a deep commitment to fostering a love of discovery. We believe that every child learns best in an environment that is engaging, hands-on, and meaningful. Our programs are designed to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, preparing students for success in school and beyond.
Forest School
Our Forest School program is a cornerstone of the Summit experience, offering students the unique opportunity to learn and grow in nature. Immersed in the natural world, students develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and an appreciation for the environment. Outdoor lessons are intentionally crafted to integrate core academic subjects while encouraging teamwork and personal responsibility. By connecting with nature, students gain a deeper understanding of their world and their place within it.
Project-Based Learning
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is at the heart of our curriculum, providing students with opportunities to explore real-world challenges through inquiry and hands-on projects. In PBL classrooms, students work collaboratively to research, design, and present solutions to meaningful questions. This approach not only reinforces core academic skills but also promotes communication, creativity, and a sense of ownership in their learning. Whether designing a sustainable community, building a model bridge, or creating a multimedia presentation, students at Summit develop critical life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Individualized Learning
We recognize that every child is unique, and our individualized learning plans ensure that each student’s needs, interests, and strengths are met. Teachers use a combination of assessments, one-on-one conferencing, and flexible groupings to tailor instruction, helping students progress. This personalized approach fosters confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning.
Social-Emotional Learning
We believe that academic success is deeply tied to emotional well-being. Our social-emotional learning (SEL) program equips students with the tools they need to navigate challenges, build strong relationships, and develop empathy. SEL is woven into daily classroom activities, fostering a positive and inclusive community where every student feels valued and supported.
Summit School’s academic approach reflects our dedication to nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. By blending innovative teaching methods, individualized support, and a vibrant community, we empower students to thrive and make meaningful contributions to their world.
